IC Information
CHARACTER NAME: Edea Lee
AGE: 18 (Going by localization)
CANON: Bravely Default
CANON POINT: Chapter 4, after her father leaves her room
FAMILY TYPES:
VIRUS BUSTERS: Edea has a pretty bad obsession with being ‘good’. During her journey in her home world, she sees things as either ‘black or white, good or evil’, and makes a huge effort to be ‘white’ while fighting against anything she considered ‘black’- but naïve as it was, she was genuinely fighting for the good of the people, as much as she overgeneralized and simplified matters. Edea wants to be good and fights for it.

WIND GUARDIANS: For one, during the game, she guards the Wind Vestal, who literally brings forth the wind. Puns aside, she’s also someone who believes in freedom as long as people don’t hurt others. She also used her own freedom to betray her country, refusing to be strapped down by the expectations of her father and as the daughter of the Grand Marshal.

DRAGON’S ROAR: Edea is a textbook example. Refused to sit back as her countrymen ravaged homes and caused war? Check. Loud, rash, and daring, even electing to strut down in the Bravo Bikini to catch the attention of someone? Check. Wants to be heard and isn’t scared to raise her voice? Check.

APPEARANCE: Here’s a picture. She has pretty messy blonde hair, though she tries to comb it, she really does. Edea has blue eyes and generally wears her Freelancer outfit, as seen above, but in-game changes it depending on her Job- but she normally wears that dress and pants now.

PERSONALITY:
Edea is a very angry person.

The first impression you get from her is that she is not afraid to speak her mind. And you are right- her bravery is one of her defining attributes. When she was born, she was raised to be a soldier and fight for Eternia. However, the moment she decided that what her country was doing was wrong, she dares to stand up and fight against the very people she was sent to work with. She fought and even killed the people who was raised alongside her, not letting her own emotions and desires get in the way of her final judgment. She is brutal in that aspect; for the sake of good and the death of evil, she will go to whatever lengths she needs.

Edea is driven by her sense of justice. Unfortunately, in the end, she is ultimately naïve- her judgments of whatever is good or evil is shallow and quick. In Chapter 3, she outright says, “That’s just how I see the world- black or white. Good or evil.” Fueled by the marvelous stories of old, heroic knights and warriors saving the defenseless people and slaying the selfish evil that look only after themselves, her moral compass is unshakably fixed in her overly idealistic mindset. Act for the better of others? Good. Act for anything else that causes harm to others? Evil. Finding out why people do things is not of Edea’s concern; this is seen when she rushes to betray her country and fight for the Wind Vestal without going to find out why her father is knee-deep in Anticrystallism, or fed her false tales from childhood.

She only sees what is right in front of her, such as ‘Wind Vestal needs help and wants to restore peace to the world’ and ‘Eternian Sky Knight is trying to kill her’, making judgments from there. She does want to know the full story, but can easily act without that knowledge- for example, in the two I brought up above, ‘Wind Vestal needs help and wants to restore peace to the world’ is actually ‘Wind Vestal is being misled by a third party into destroying the world’. ‘Eternian Sky Knight is trying to kill her’ is actually ‘Eternian Sky Knight is fighting for justice, just like Edea, to make sure the world is saved through doubtful means’.

Her journey has only been fueling her idealistic worldviews; seeing innocent lives get ruined and wars ravaging like wildfire, it’s quite easy for her to label the perpetrators ‘evil’ and not look any deeper. She’s made quite a habit of it, judging things from a split-second of observation, only from one side of the story. Don’t take her wrongly, though- she really does wish for the best for everyone. All she wants is for people to be at peace and be considerate of one another, to stop being selfish, and everyone interdependently living in bliss. Why a world like that isn’t existing right now eludes her, the only reason she can think of being ‘evil people’; and she is angry at them.

The demeanor Edea takes up while fighting for justice is a very rash and passionate one. She is quick to anger, and fight, especially when people call her views naïve; this could be because of the fact that she has been misled from young, and now, what she desires most is to be knowledgeable. She is very vocal about her views on righteousness, damn anyone who stands in her way. Just because she’s hot-headed and naïve doesn’t mean she’s stupid, though. Edea may be capable of reading people’s emotions easily, especially when she’s known them for quite a while- for example, she can easily tell when Kamiizumi is angry even when everyone else considers him calm, and when Konoe wants to say something. She ultimately cares and pays more attention to other people rather than herself.

As loud as she may be, she is not a chatterbox. Edea doesn’t rattle off on her own, and steps in mostly only when she needs to or when she has something to contribute. And while she might come off as a prideful person, she doesn’t find it hard to apologize when she considers herself in the wrong or thank anyone for helping her in a pitch. She doesn’t seem to have shame in crying- she doesn’t do it on a daily basis, but due to the circumstances of her betrayal, slaying her friends is a common thing, and in a game where extra dialogue after fight scenes is common, Edea doesn’t really apologize or stray away from others after having an emotional moment. She’s receptive to criticism, as long as it comes from friends and doesn’t go against her morals. Edea does have a short temper, due to her fast assumptions and passionate love of justice, but she’s… trying to get better. Really.

There is something Edea does desire, at this canon point, at least- more trust. She’s had to cut off ties with her childhood friends and partners, mostly through death- and during Chapter 3, Agnés, her travel companion and Wind Vestal, constantly distrusts her due to recently finding out Edea’s close ties to the government of Eternia that sent assassins to kill her (and successfully kill her childhood friend Olivia). She won’t break down without it, but being a traitor is a lonely thing, and she’d prefer if her new friends didn’t turn their backs on her too. Now, she’s a traitor in her world and a stranger in this one- what more does she want than another band of heroes to go around fighting evil and saving the day?

Edea also has an eye for luxury items and loose grip on her money (or rather, Ringabel’s money, as if she’d ever use her own) when it comes to dresses. She is the Grand Marshal’s daughter, after all… growing up with a pretty penny of products probably spoils you a bit.

FIRST PERSON:
Dear_Mun post!

THIRD PERSON:
There are many things that are wrong with this situation. One of them, being that she was no longer in her room.

When did it happen? After her own father threatened death upon her- her own father, mind you- someone shouted her name. It wasn’t her father, or one of the Sky Knights, and yet… she turned towards it, anger clouding over with confusion instead, and then the lights.

Was she going to die? Did her father set bombs in her room? The sudden lack of gravity and atmosphere threw her off her feet- she tried to regain control, remember her mentor’s teachings, but mostly struggled in mid-air like a baby bird falling from its nest. There’s a moment’s pause before her breathing stills, though her heart rate only goes up when she reaches down her throat to scream “HELP-“

-Before she ended up… with her body dropping like a rag doll on a chair. Except she didn’t feel an impact, only the cold seat against her back.

Her first reaction is to gasp. What kind of magic was that? Where is this place? Is this one of her father’s tricks? Edea scrambled for the sword that should be by her side before she realizes that her father probably took it, put it somewhere else, no no no no-

When the television whirrs to life, her first reaction is to whip around in shock and punch the screen.

Thankfully, it fails to break. Instead, a face appears on screen- what was this? Some hologram magic, some advancement Eternia has made while she was away? She flares her nose in rage, electing to perhaps rip the strange device out by the seams, damn everything to do with machinery and all its elusive tactics. Before she can do much, though, the words he said began to take shape in her head.

As if she’d believe any of them, though! So, this is what they wanted to play? An elaborate scheme, if any, but right when they’re so close to restoring all the Crystals, there’s no way they can trick her again. Her father’s words are still fresh in her mind, he has no qualms about slaying her if need be, she needs to be on her toes-

-and the door opens.
